History of Kingdom Land Missionary Baptist Church

The Kingdom Land Land Baptist Mission was organized on December 22, 1968

with the late Rev. Herman Colbert as the overseer, at 1701 West Madison.  The Mission was organized into a church on July 2, 1969, with only seven members with letters received from King Solomon Baptist Church (which is our Mother Church.)

The church was organized by Moderator: Rev. Charles Elliott Jr., Pastor of King Solomon Baptist Church. The Council was: the late Rev. Preston Troupe, Assistant Pastor of the Morning Star Baptist church; the late Rev. Jessie Porter, Pastor of Philippian Baptist Church; the late Rev. O. W. McClain, Pastor of Day Spring Baptist Church; the late Rev. J. T. French, Pastor of Oak Grove Baptist Church; the late Rev. C. Crawford, Pastor of First Samuel Baptist Church and the late Rev. John Spurling, Associate Pastor of Zion Baptist Church.

At that time, Rev. Herman Colbert was called to be the Pastor of Kingdom Land Baptist Church. With constant prayers and God’s guidance, the church continued to grow under his faithful leadership.  Within one year, God blessed Kingdom Land with 87 members and this present site, where we are continuing to worship and praise our Lord.

Since we’ve been here, our membership’s grown and many accomplishments have been made.

In 1987, God allowed us to expand our sanctuary and on July 23, 1989, the church Corner Stone was dedicated in a special worship service. Kingdom Land has given birth to 22 ministers of whom some has become Pastors.  Rev. Herman Colbert announced that God had revealed to him that it was time for him to  lay his mantle on the next Angel of this house.  As an obedient servant of God, he did so, on January 3, 1993 and Rev. H. Wayne Colbert was installed as Pastor on February 14, 1993.

Pastor H. Wayne Colbert has always followed the Vision God had given him and he was obedient to the Holy Spirit’s direction. By the grace of God we purchased the building next door and named it the Herman Colbert Fellowship Hall, in honor of our founder.

On November 10, 2006, we opened our Breakthrough Bookstore.  God continues to give you the desires of your heart and on December 8, 2006, a vision of Lady Elect Rev. Kimberly Colbert came into fruition: The WOW -- Women of Worth -- Transitional House. Funded by the church and through charitable donations, under the direction of Rev. Kimberly Colbert. TGBTG

The Bible says: “A People Without A Vision Soon Perish,” and in this vision we have been blessed with ministries: Children’s Ministry, Youth Ministry, Creative Arts Ministry, Culinary Ministry, Nehemiah Ministry, Audio/Video Ministry, Van Ministry, Music Ministry, Education Ministry, S.W.A.T. (Sister’s With A Testimony), M.A.G.I. (Men At God’sInfluence), Usher/Greeters Ministry, Deacon Ministry, and the Levi Ministry.

Pastor Colbert often states: “Church there is a Word from the Lord!” We are encouraged by God’s blessings from the former days, and are assured from our biblical teachings that our lattter will be greater than our past. God is continuing to do bigger, better and greater things in the life of Kingdom Land Missionary Baptist Church. “The glory of this latter house shall be greater than the former” (Haggai 2:9a).

Words are inadequate to convey how honored we are and how humble we feel to be a part of this great ministry in Kingdom Building. Sometimes, we look back and are amazed as we reflect on how far God has brought us.  We began rooted in faith and continuing in Honoring Our God!
